Our darling Matthew, so bright, determined, optimistic, loving, opinionated, happy, irreverent, charming, practical, polite, driven, loyal, fun, critical and courageous. Hopefully we nurtured you, although you said “it must be nature as there wasn’t much nurturing going on”, and taught you to be the best possible person, but in the end you taught us. You were brave, without self-pity and appreciative until the end. When asked by the palliative care doctor how you felt about your situation, rather than focussing on the injustice of it all you said “I feel honoured to have met all the specialist people and received all the specialist care during my treatment and am truly grateful to everyone”.
