In April last year Matt and I were in the hospital watching the London Marathon and tracking some of our friends who were running and I mentioned that it was something I've always wanted to do. Matt promptly told me to stop just saying it and sign up - and that's how I've now found myself with a place in the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon.
So I'm doing this for him and am aiming to raise £3,000 for Sarcoma UK.
Matt was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in 2013 and spent the next 3 years undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and three operations.
Sarcoma is very rare, and much more research needs to be done to fully understand how these cancers develop and how best to diagnose and treat them. Sarcoma UK aims to fund research and raise awareness about this form of cancer to help with early diagnosis which is so important to increase survival rates. They receive no government funding and rely solely on generous voluntary donations and fundraisers.
I've missed Matt terribly since he passed away in June 2016 and hope that doing this would have made him proud, even if I would definitely have received some abuse from him for how much I now talk about running...
So thank you so much for your donations. They will make such a huge difference to this small charity who have such a big job to do and help motivate me to keep going on these long, cold training runs!
Thank you for your support.
